Our Impact in 2023

Change Climate
May 16, 2024
As we commemorate five years since the launch of our organization, we’re excited to share our 2023 Impact Report. It showcases the tangible contributions we've made to the climate movement, reflecting our journey from ideas and dreams to action and impact, and the incredible community who has joined, encouraged, and championed our mission along the way.

Each year since our launch has brought wins, challenges, and surprises. 2023 was no exception.

Many things went according to plan. We remained focused on our core vision: that all people should understand the climate initiatives and claims made by companies, and affordability should never stand in the way of corporate climate action.

To that end, we remained the leading consumer climate label, while also launching an initiative to ensure we stay at the forefront of consumer climate labels for the next five years and beyond. 347 companies are now Climate Neutral Certified. They set hundreds of reduction action plans and new science aligned reduction targets. They invested $10M+ in eligible verified carbon credits and clean energy certificates.

We also saw significant growth in our community, with our tools and programs enabling hundreds of companies to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. We built and launched new features in our GHG management platform, the BEE, which made it more capable than ever.

And yet – the climate movement is part of a dynamic global landscape, and in 2023 we identified a need, and opportunity, to align better with it. We retired our old name “Climate Neutral” to become “The Change Climate Project” to make way for the expansion of our tools and programs, and reflect a broader idea of how we are bringing about change in the world.

As is the nature of impact, the influence of our community was far greater than anything we could do with only our team. We activated dozens of volunteers and trained hundreds of aspiring climate professionals. We also built our partner network across the nonprofit, consulting, technology, and retail sectors.

As we reflect on the past year in our 2023 Impact Report, we feel deeply grateful for the commitment of our certified brand community, the unwavering support of our partners, and the dedication of our team, board members, and volunteers. Together, we are building a grassroots corporate climate movement – sparking new climate initiatives, and making climate actions better trusted and understood.

Here’s to the next five years!

The Next Wave of Corporate Climate Investment is Coming

Companies need to ramp up their financial contribution to climate solutions, spend those funds on the right things, and publicly disclose this capital allocation to stakeholders. So that begs the question: how should each company determine its next steps? What level of investment is needed to decarbonize?

Corporate Climate Progress Has Stalled. Carbon Pricing Could Be the Answer.

At a moment when report after report shows the world is nowhere near its climate goals, the corporate climate movement is slowing down - not speeding up. For the past decade, thousands of companies raced to set ambitious, long-term targets for emissions reduction. But few if any are meeting those targets.
